The best weddings aren’t always defined by perfect weather and an immaculately planned timeline. My favorite ones to photograph are often special simply because of the people and the memories you can’t plan for. Clara and Jared’s May wedding in Manheim, Pennsylvania, was one of those unforgettable days.


The special day took place at Clara’s childhood home—a beautiful family farm property in Lancaster County. Their wedding was filled with sentimental details, colorful spring florals, and, most importantly, genuine joy. That palpable energy of happiness and love made every moment worth documenting.


From the moment I arrived, it was clear that beyond creating a beautiful celebration, this wedding was about honoring the place where Clara grew up and beginning a new chapter surrounded by the people she and Jared love most.

A Wedding Day at Home in Manheim, Pennsylvania

There was something incredibly special about photographing a wedding at Clara’s family home. The property, located in Manheim in Lancaster County, spans approximately 10 acres and provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration that felt both elegant and deeply personal.


The couple’s ceremony and reception took place beneath beautiful white tents from Hess Tents & Rentals, complete with chandeliers that created a romantic, whimsical atmosphere. Even with the rain falling throughout the entire day, the tents transformed the property into a cozy garden party setting filled with warmth and charm.

The grounds themselves had so many meaningful details—from the family’s animals and horses to the peaceful pond on the property. While the rain changed some of the original outdoor portrait plans, the home offered endless beautiful spaces to photograph.

Every corner had its own personality.



One of my favorite spaces was what the family lovingly called the “pink room.” Located right near the main entrance of the home, this small room was full of character with soft pink walls, a green velvet loveseat, vintage chairs, houseplants, and beautiful natural window light. It was the perfect setting for Clara’s bridal portraits.

The combination of the vintage details, her elegant gown, and the colorful floral tones created portraits that felt timeless while still capturing her personality.



A Colorful Spring Garden Party Wedding


Clara and Jared’s wedding style was a beautiful mix of classic elegance and garden party charm.


Rather than choosing a single wedding color, Clara embraced a colorful spring palette filled with personality. The day incorporated shades of pink, lilac, burgundy, orange, blue, and plenty of greenery.

The floral arrangements from Spring Valley Farms brought the entire vision together with a seasonal mix of:

  • Peonies
  • Ranunculus
  • Iceland poppies
  • Sweet peas
  • Snapdragons
  • Sweet William
  • Hydrangeas
  • Spirea
  • Ninebark foliage
  • Fern greenery


The result was romantic, colorful, and full of life—perfect for a late spring wedding.


The wedding party continued the colorful theme with bridesmaids wearing different shades of light blue, burgundy, and vintage pink. Jared wore a royal blue suit paired with a floral blue tie and a bright pink boutonniere, while his groomsmen wore varying shades of navy.

Together, the colors created a look that felt joyful and effortlessly elegant.

Meaningful Details That Told Their Story


The most beautiful wedding details are often the ones that carry a deeper meaning.


While getting ready, Clara’s bridal details were photographed on a wooden bench handcrafted by her father. Having that personal piece included alongside her wedding accessories added such a special connection to the images.

Later, during the reception, guests participated in another incredibly thoughtful tradition. A family friend hosted a station where guests could write messages on individual handkerchiefs. After the wedding, those handwritten notes will be sewn together into a quilt for a one-of-a-kind keepsake. 


Knowing there was a chance of rain, Clara and Jared thoughtfully provided umbrellas for their guests. What could have been seen as an inconvenience became another reminder of how much care they put into making everyone feel comfortable and welcomed.



They were also intentional about how they wanted their photography timeline to feel. They didn’t want to spend hours away from their guests taking portraits. Instead, they wanted photographs that reflected the true feeling of the day — the laughter, emotions, hugs, and candid moments they could look back on years from now. That trust allowed me to document their wedding in a way that felt natural and authentic.

My Approach to Clara & Jared’s Wedding Photography

For Clara’s bridal portraits, I leaned into a more editorial approach while still incorporating natural, candid moments. Having extra time in the pink room allowed me to experiment with different angles, movement, and poses to create portraits that felt artistic and timeless.


I especially loved photographing her in the bridal suite at her parents’ home, where rich contrast highlighted the details of her dress. The black-and-white images from this portion of the day are some of my favorites because they capture the elegance and emotion so beautifully.

For the rest of the wedding day, my approach blended storytelling, photojournalism, and traditional portraits. I focused on capturing the full story, from intimate moments with family to joyful celebrations with friends.


My editing style for this wedding included warm tones with a balance of bright and moody imagery, using natural light throughout the day and on-camera flash during the ceremony and reception.

The Best Moments Are Unplanned

Clara and Jared’s Manheim wedding was a perfect example of why weddings aren’t defined by perfect circumstances.

It rained from morning until evening. Some outdoor plans changed. The timeline looked different than expected. And yet the day was absolutely beautiful.



Because at the heart of it was something much more important: two people who were completely present, surrounded by family and friends, celebrating the beginning of their marriage in a place that meant everything to them.


That is the kind of story I love preserving: the real moments, the emotional moments, and the memories that grow more meaningful with time.
