A Yorktowne Hotel Wedding on New Year’s Eve?
Yes, please! From the moment I arrived in downtown York on December 3oth, 2025, I knew Madigan and Zachary’s day would be equal parts elegant, emotional, and unforgettable. I joined them at their ceremony rehearsal to be aware of any special events happening during the ceremony, coordinate a location for the first look, and make sure all would go smoothly on their wedding day.
This winter celebration was filled with meaningful details, deep family roots, and the kind of joy that only comes when two people truly know they’ve found their forever.
A Love Story Rooted in Service
Madigan and Zachary’s journey began in EMT school. What started as shared classes and long study nights turned into a love story built on compassion, resilience, and ambition. After meeting in Pennsylvania, life took them to West Virginia as Madigan continued on to medical school and into her residency.
Their relationship has always been about growth and commitment — so it felt fitting that they would literally “tie the knot” during their ceremony. That symbolic gesture made their vows even more powerful.
And fun fact — I first met them through Madigan’s sister, who gifted them an engagement session as a Christmas gift. We specifically were looking at days we were going to have snow, and everything worked out! Their engagement photoshoot was the day after a snowstorm. That winter session sealed the deal. They loved their images and the experience so much that they invited me back to photograph their wedding day. Moments like that mean everything to me.
Getting Ready Inside a Historic York Landmark
The Yorktowne Hotel is a historic gem in downtown York. Its rich architecture, grand lobby, restaurant and bar area, and even a stunning piano space give guests beautiful spots to gather and celebrate.
One of the reasons this Yorktowne Hotel Winter Wedding worked so seamlessly is because everything was in one place. With in-house catering, cake and pastries, linens, décor, and accommodations for up to 200 guests, it created such a smooth experience for the couple and their families.
As the morning unfolded, I documented quiet anticipation — velvet and silk bridesmaid dresses in hunter green, the groom’s dark green suit with warm gold and bronze accents, and Madigan’s stunning mermaid lace gown. She wore a short veil for the ceremony and later added a pearl cathedral veil for outdoor portraits — which elevated her entire winter bridal look.
And yes — in true Nicolle fashion — I helped Zachary steam his shirt before getting dressed. It’s the little things that matter.
An Intimate First Look from Above
One of my favorite memories from this Yorktowne Hotel wedding was their first look in the East Ballroom. The space was quiet and still before guests arrived.
I photographed the moment from the upper balcony, allowing them privacy while capturing the emotion from above. Watching Zachary turn around and see Madigan for the first time — it was tender, grounding, and deeply personal. Those are the kinds of moments I live to document.
Wedding Details & Bridal Party Portraits
One of my favorite parts of every wedding day is documenting the details that often take months of planning. For this wedding at the Yorktowne Hotel, the details reflected the couple’s elegant winter vision beautifully.
Madigan’s lace floral gown was timeless and sophisticated, paired with delicate pearl accents that felt refined without being overwhelming. Her short veil was perfect for the ceremony, while the pearl cathedral veil added drama and romance for portraits later in the day.
The bridesmaids wore hunter green dresses in mixed textures — silk and velvet — which added depth and richness to the overall look. It complemented the ballroom’s historic interior perfectly. Zachary’s dark green suit with warm gold and bronze tones tied everything together seamlessly, while the groomsmen’s black suits and yellow ties added a classic contrast.
When photographing wedding details and bridal party portraits, I always aim for a balance of polished and natural. I want the images to feel elevated but still full of personality — laughter between siblings, supportive glances, and those quiet in-between moments that make the day meaningful.
The Ballroom East provided such a beautiful backdrop for these portraits. The architecture, warm tones, and holiday décor created an elegant atmosphere that didn’t need much enhancement — just good light and genuine connection.
Rooftop & Bar Portraits: A Modern Winter Romance
After the ceremony, we stepped outside for something a little different — rooftop portraits overlooking downtown York.
Even though it was a cold December afternoon, Madigan embraced the moment effortlessly. With her pearl cathedral veil flowing in the winter air, those rooftop portraits added a modern, editorial edge to their Yorktowne Hotel wedding gallery. The contrast between the historic hotel and the city skyline gave their images depth and dimension.
Later, we moved inside to the hotel’s bar area for more intimate bride and groom portraits. I love incorporating spaces that feel authentic to the venue experience. The warm lighting, classic bar setting, and cozy ambiance created a romantic, cinematic feel — almost like a scene from rom-com movie.
These quieter portrait moments allowed them to pause, breathe, and soak in the reality of being husband and wife before the New Year’s celebration fully unfolded.
As a photographer, this is always my goal: to create space for couples to reconnect in the middle of the celebration. The portraits are not just about posing — they’re about preserving emotion.
A Winter Ceremony Full of Meaning
Outside, it was a very cold Pennsylvania winter day. Inside, it was warmth and celebration. Their color palette of black, white, green, and gold complemented the hotel’s classic interior without leaning too heavily into holiday red.
Two towering Christmas trees — nearly 20 feet tall — framed the ballroom beautifully. It still felt festive, but elevated and timeless.
During the ceremony, they literally tied a knot together — symbolizing unity and strength. It was intentional and powerful, just like their love story.
A Reception That Rang in the New Year
Because this was a New Year’s Eve wedding, the reception had an extra spark of excitement. Guests wore festive hats, glow sticks, themed glasses, and necklaces as the countdown approached.
One of the most emotional moments of the evening was the anniversary dance. Couples married 1, 5, 10, 15 years — all the way to 50+ years — joined the dance floor. The final couple standing? Zachary’s grandfather, married for 53 years. That kind of legacy sets the tone for a marriage.
As midnight approached, the ballroom filled with cheers, laughter, and celebration. It was the most joyful way to begin a new chapter.
